Foster a dog

Are you interested in fostering a dog?

The most important role in the rescue is that of the foster family. Since we do not have a physical location, each dog that we take in is placed with a foster family. The foster family is responsible for the care, socialization, and training of the rescued dog to prepare it for its forever home. As a foster, you will teach dogs who may have been let down by their previous owners that humans are not all bad and that we are here to give them a second chance at a happy life. You will help shy dogs learn that it's okay to explore the world; you will help fearful dogs learn that people, places, and other dogs can be safe; you will make unwanted dogs feel wanted and loved again and become ready to be a part of someone's family. It's not always an easy job, but it is a very important job and one that we take very seriously.

Adopt A Pit provides you with everything you need to foster a rescued dog. You will be provided with a crate, collar, food, and any necessary medications for your rescued dog. We provide all medical care and vetting for your foster dog. We provide you with instructions and guidance to help you reintroduce your rescued dog to what a dog's life should be. You will also have access to our team of fosters who are available to offer guidance and advice to help you every step of the way. You will never be alone. We want fostering to be a rewarding experience - for both you and the dog!

You must meet all the below requirements to foster:

  • All dogs in the home must be spayed or neutered.
  • All dogs in the home must be current on all age appropriate vaccinations.
  • All dogs in the home must be on regular, year-round heartworm preventative.
  • We may require the same of other pets in the home at our discretion.
  • We will contact your vet to confirm the above.
  • If you rent, we will contact your landlord to verify your ability to have a dog, and any restrictions on breed or size.
  • We require that you fill out an application and be completely honest on the application.
  • We do not require a fence, but ask about it in our application.
  • We will visit your home to make sure it is a suitable environment for our dog.
  • Fosters must be within a reasonable distance from our veterinarian in Germantown, OH.
  • Fosters must be willing and able to transport their foster dog to and from regular appointments, adoption events, and adoption meet & greets.
  • Foster must sign a foster contract and agree to abide by all Adopt A Pit Rescue rules regarding their foster dog, including utilization of a crate when the dog is unsupervised.
